‘Strictly Come Dancing’: Radio presenter Nikita Kanda eliminated

By: Mohnish Singh

BBC Asian Network’s Breakfast Show host Nikita Kanda was the second celebrity to face elimination from the popular celebrity dance reality show Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday.

The 28-year-old left the show with her professional partner Gorka Márquez after their performance on Saturday’s Movie Night theme.

Nikita and Gorka landed in the bottom two with Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima and had to perform again in the dance-off.

First Zara and her dance partner Graziano performed their Pasodoble to “The Puss Suite” from Puss In Boots. Then, Nikita and Gorka performed their Jive to “Kids In America” from Clueless.

However, the duo failed to impress the judges as they all chose to save Zara.

After her elimination, Kanda said, “I’ve had the best time and I love all my Strictly family, I’m going to miss you all. This has been a dream come true. I am so grateful.”

She added, “I’ve got to say the biggest thankyou to Gorka, he has been the biggest support and I’ve had the best time ever.”

Her dance partner Gorka added, “I am beyond proud of her, for someone that doesn’t have any dance experience or performance experience to come on this show and dance in front of millions of people – for three weeks, I think it’s incredible.

He added, “You should be very proud of yourself; you have never let me down and I am very proud of you. I’ve never laughed so much in three weeks than I did with you!”

Meanwhile, broadcaster Krishnan Guru-Murthy and his professional dance partner Lauren Oakley scored 30 marks from the judges and progressed to the next episode. The duo performed on “Money Money” by Joel Grey & Liza Minnelli

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.30 pm on BBC One.
